Kempton Park SAPS have registered a case of murder after the body of a 32-year-old woman was discovered near Great North Road, close to Max Informal Settlement in Pomona, on August 3.

Police subsequently clarified that the cases included a woman found in Kempton Park on 3 August and a separate woman found in Olifantsfontein on 7 September.

Gauteng acting provincial commissioner Major General Fred Kekana previously said preliminary information indicated that the woman found in Dawn Park had been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped at the scene.

“Investigators are considering all possibilities, including the possibility of multiple suspects or separate perpetrators,” said Kekana. “Police are comparing the evidence, timelines, locations, victim profiles and circumstances of each case before reaching conclusions.”

Major-General Fred Kekana says the ninth body discovered in Ekurhuleni, that of a woman, had stab wounds. He has appealed to community members to assist police with any information that could aid the investigation.

“Police are comparing the evidence, timelines, locations, victim profiles and circumstances of each case,” Kekana said, adding that while it is too early to connect the killings to a serial killer, “the similarities in the cases were concerning”.

Addressing media at the Dawn Park scene on Thursday, Gauteng Police Commissioner Major General Kekana urged the public against circulating unverified information, saying the recent spread of false information was adding to existing fears.

“If someone saw something, they must say something,” Kekana said.
